Holistic Management Course

The start of my Nuffield Journey, brings me to a place called 'Jervoise' which is situated 35kms from Greenvale, 200kms west of Charters Towers. I spent three days learning about cell grazing systems that involve alot of animal impact at the right times and to calculate stocking rates and most importantly resting time for pastures. The course was conducted by very knowledgable man, Kirk Gadzia from New Mexico. For information regarding this course follow the link www.regenag.com

Getting ready for a day's mustering.

Just about to head out mustering this morning with one of my best mares, Holly.

Welcome to my first post!!

Firstly, a little bit about myself.....
Together with my wife Leah and our three children, Kurt 5, Kayla 3 and Beau 1, we live at 'Bald Hills', Marlborough, Queensland, Australia.  I have been awarded a Nuffield Scholarship for 2012, proudly sponsored by Meat and Livestock Australia, and I am looking to study beef genetics and pasture management.  Before applying for the Nuffield Scholarship, I was look for a way to investigate better practices of pasture management and wanting to study the different breeds of cattle which enable us to maintain the quality of beef in our herds to suit our harsh environment.  Over a cup of tea on the back deck with my wife Leah, I noticed an advertisement regarding scholarships available through Nuffield in the MLA’s Feedback magazine, I thought to myself what do I have to lose, I’m going to give it a go!   I have always wanted to pursue a better acamedic career as I left school at the age of 15 to work on the land so I was unsure of my success. However, after state and national selections, I was awarded the scholarship in late September. I’m so excited where Nuffield is going to take me, not only travel wise, but knowledge wise as well.
